Obituary for Janice Ann Hasler

Janice Ann Hasler

Janice Ann (née Aiello) Hasler, age 68, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband, Dave, and eldest son, David, on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at her home in Bradenton, Florida, after a short battle with glioblastoma.

Janice was born on July 10, 1949, the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Notaro) Aiello and the younger sister of John and Marilyn. A graduate of both Trinity High School and Loyola University, Janice began her teaching degree at Queen of All Saints Parish in Chicago, where she later married her husband Dave on August 25, 1973.

Janice is survived by her four children: Carrie (Chad) Plemons, April (Jim) Conneely, David (Jennifer) Hasler and Mark (Jen) Hasler. After residing in Illinois, Janice and Dave eventually relocated to Bradenton, Florida, where they’ve called home for the past 14 years.

When her daughter April was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, Janice spent countless hours organizing walk-a-thons, galas, and other fundraising efforts for JDRF. She was also extremely faithful and volunteered in the parishes they attended. Most recently, at Our Lady of the Angels in Lakewood Ranch, she managed the Good Samaritan Ministry, which was dedicated to providing transportation to those without means.

Janice also had a passion for card games and loved her bridge friends like sisters. In addition, Janice was heavily involved in the Lakewood Ranch Women’s Club and received the Woman of the Year award in 2016 for her volunteer contributions. In addition, both Janice and David became Guardian ad litem in Sarasota, devoting endless hours to advocating on behalf of foster children.

Janice loved her eight grandchildren: Anna, Brady and Chase; Hailey and Julia; and Christian, Jonathan and Ryan. She cherished every moment she had visiting with them in Chicago and Atlanta. During her illness, Janice was lovingly cared for by her husband Dave, and they would have celebrated 45 years of marriage together this August.

She was a bright light of energy who leaves a behind a legacy of giving to others, and she will be missed by so many. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
