Obituary for Frank J. Cassady

Frank J. Cassady
Of Arlington Heights

Frank J. Cassady was born on April 28, 1930 in Streator, Illinois to Robert and Bessie (nee Zimmerman) Cassady. He died peacefully, well-fortified by the sacraments and surrounded by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Angie (nee Feeney), and their five children, on Friday, May 4, 2018, following a valiant months-long endeavor to regain his strength and ability to walk after a serious infection last October. Our entire family extends heart-felt thanks to the hospice caregivers at Journey Care Hospice of Northwest Community Hospital, who ushered Dad in to the next part of his journey with an abundance of grace and compassion.

As for generations, Frank farmed with his father and brothers before enlisting in the Air Force, where he worked in communications (interceptions and code-breaking support) while based in Germany. Following his service, Frank studied electrical engineering at St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. Frank accepted a position with U.S. Electrical Motors, a division of Emerson Electric, and he continued to work for them in Cleveland, Akron, and Youngstown, Ohio; Kalamazoo, Michigan, as well as Chicago, Illinois. In 1974, Frank forged a consulting partnership in energy-management and industrial efficiency during the Energy Crisis, and later worked in management at Rockwell, International, and with a Private physical therapy entity that served both human and the equine patient populations. Frank wrapped up his career as Business Manager for Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, their longtime parish, where he and Angie enjoyed meeting friends through CFM and other faith-based groups-deep friendships that last to this day.

Frank is survived by his spouse of nearly 60 years, Angie (nee Feeney); children, Marifran (Dr. William) Dirkes, Kathy (Michael Posdal), Michael (Allison), Elizabeth Cavanaugh, and Tom; Grandchildren, Dr. Bill Dirkes, Dr. Jennifer (Dr. Yuan Liu, fiancé) Dirkes, Anne (Alex) Gidley, Brad Posdal, Joseph, Ryan Cassady, Mikey Cassady, Kelly Cassady, Morgan, Riley, and Ava Cavanaugh; siblings, Edmund "Bud" (the late Marie), Charles "Lenny" (Theresa); sister-in-law, Janet Cassady.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Rosella Cassady, Robert Cassady, Mary Beth (Tony) Saraceno, Margery (Bill) Maubach, Bernard "Bernie" Cassady, and two sets of twins who died shortly after birth.

Frank has generously donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois for the advancement of training medical professionals. Frank’s life will be celebrated at a Memorial Mass at 11:00 am Friday, May 11, 2018, at St. Edna’s Parish, 2525 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL, 60004. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be offered to St. Edna Parish, 2525 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL, 60004; The Lutheran Home Foundation, 800 West Oakton Street, Arlington Heights, IL, 60004; or the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
