John Norman Pedersen
Of Arlington Heights

John Norman Pedersen was born on March 31, 1924 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to Anton M. and Bessie E. (nee Angel) Pedersen. He died Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Lutheran Home & Services in  Arlington Heights, Illinois.

He attended Lane Tech High School in Chicago, IL.His activities included the Boy Scout / Explorer rifle team, 4 time Illinois DCM state small bore champions, gardening, wood carving and photography. 

He was president of the Mercedes Parts Dealers association for a year, Scout Master of Troop 57 Boy Scouts and later Troop 57 Explorers, and a master wood carver. He owned J-G photo for 10 years, providing wedding photography, and started several of his photographers in their own studios. He also enjoyed guest speaking at schools about his exploits in WWII He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge and actively visited the different lodges during his travels. He loved traveling with his wife, June, throughout the United States, camping and visiting the National Parks and historical sites along the way. He was very involved in his children’s’ activities including scouting, Coronet Drill Team, dancing, music and his son’s rock and roll band. He was very innovative and a handyman who could fix anything. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, he became an automobile mechanic before becoming Parts Manager at Mark Motors in Arlington Heights, IL where he held that position for over 40 years. 

He served his country in WW II as a Tech Sergeant in the Army Combat 132nd Infantry, was a platoon Sergeant achieving sharp shooter ranking with Lapel Button issued and trained other service members in marksmanship in the 70th Infantry Training Battalion at Camp Howze Texas. He served in the Guadalcanal battle, earning the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater ribbon with Bronze Star, and the American Defense Service ribbon. 

John is survived by his children George (Janice) Pedersen, Bonnie (Anthony) Salins, Lorraine (Michael) Musich, and Carol (Chanel) Caron, grandchildren Kimberly, Sean, Eric, Christina, Amy, Timothy, Jamie, Jennifer, Nicole, Michael, Christopher, Andrew, Ian,and Courtney, great-grandchildren Sam, Nicholas, Caitlan, Kier, Stephen, Bailey,
 Evelyn, Nic, Samuel, Jon, Joshua, Thomas, Ryan, Carter, Hayden, Angelica, Kylee, Ronnie, Giovanni and Emily, great-great grandchildren Elora, Raymond, Keith, Emberly and Kier Jr. and his sister, Dolores Turner. 

He was preceded in death by his wife June L. Pedersen (nee Westerlund), his parents Anton & Bessie, his son Kenneth (Cathy) Pedersen, his grandchildren Kenneth R. Pedersen, Amanda E. Musich and Steven Pedersen, his siblings Clarice (Late Al) Schneider, Shirley (Late Paul) Schultz, Evelyn Salgado and William (Donna) Pedersen. 

Visitation Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Time For Sharing Of Memories at 7:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (Four blocks south of Palatine Rd.), Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Illinois Spina Bifida Association, 2211 N. Oak Park Avenue, Elmwood Park, IL 60707; Special Olympics Illinois, 3000 Central Rd., Rolling Meadows, IL  60008 or the American Heart Assn. Memorial & Tributes Program, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL  60674.
