Obituary for Martha T. Mouri

Martha T. Mouri
Of Arlington Heights

Martha T. Mouri nee Nitao was born on September 20, 1923 in Alamo, California to Manjiro and Tsune (nee Nitao) Nitao. She died Sunday, September 30, 2018 at her residence at Luther Village in Arlington Heights, IL.

Mrs. Mouri was also known as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Friends and acquaintances knew her as a friend and a person who was gracious, caring and helpful. While her main vocation would be a homemaker, Martha worked as a cook on a ranch in Wyoming, a seamstress, a telephone operator and a receptionist.

On October 6, 1946 she married Sadayuki “Suds” Mouri and together they raised two sons, Dennis and David. She loved to garden, cook and sew. There are memories of family vacations and even a few rounds of golf.

Martha was of a generation of Japanese-Americans who endured the indignity, hardships and racism of the interment camps of World War II. Taken from her home first to the Santa Anita Racetrack and then to the Heart Mountain Interment Camp, she suffered through the harsh winters, loss of privacy and all the emotions of living behind barb wire and under guard towers. In spite of that experience she was always gracious, kind and a very “classy” lady.

Martha is survived by her sons Rev. Dennis (Rev. Linda) Frische-Mouri and David (Sharon) Mouri; her grandchildren Emily (Bill) Mortimer, Wesley Mouri, Paul Frische-Mouri, and Rev. Sarah (Sean) Frische-Mouri-Hannigan; her sisters Dorothy Miyamura and Eleanor Kobayashi and her brother Jimmy Nitao.

She was preceded in death by her husband Sadayuki Mouri and her parents.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 10:00 am until time of Memorial Service at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church of Arlington Heights, 1903 E. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment will take place at Rose Hills Memorial Park in California.
