Obituary for Jeffrey S. Berman

Jeffrey S. Berman
Of Arlington Heights

Jeffrey S. Berman was born on May 3, 1965 in Chicago, Illinois to John Berman and Carol (nee Mateski) Berman. He died Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Jeff was self-employed and started his own general contracting business, Innovative Home Services, in 2002. Shortly after starting his business, he and his beloved wife Caroline built their dream home in Arlington Heights. Each room was filled with Jeff's hard work and has now become a cozy family nest for their four children. Countless hours were spent in those rooms building memories the family cherishes to this day. Whether Jeff was remodeling the basement, or simply changing a lightbulb, his family was constantly reminded of how lucky they were to have their own "handyman." Jeff dedicated every day of his life to his company, and proudly provided for his wife, children, and dog Coconut.

Caroline and Jeff were not just husband and wife, they were best friends. It did not matter what they were doing as long as they were doing it together. From the second they met at the St. Patrick's Day block party, they knew their life would be full of beautiful adventures. Together they enjoyed sitting on the sidelines of their children's sporting events, weekend getaways in downtown Chicago, holiday shopping, an anniversary trip to Tuscany, birthdays, and holiday traditions. Jeff could even make going to Costco a fun couple outing.
Jeff was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at Northern Illinois University. Through the fraternity, he met his best friends. They continued to see and support each other frequently, and enjoyed spending time together on golf trips, football games, and poker nights. Jeff, or "Hill" as referred to by his friends, was loved by all he met and could always be counted on to be the life of the party.
His interests included anything Notre Dame, all Chicago sports (Bears, Blackhawks, Cubs), golf trips with friends and family, spending time on his beloved boat (Bruce), and traveling with his wife and kids. Detailed family trips were the result of Jeff's excitement and thorough planning. This proved to be true when traveling most recently to Europe with the whole family. Jeff enjoyed every minute touring the beautiful countries with the people he loved most.

By his family, Jeff will be remembered as the cook wearing an apron, always ready to whip up a delicious meal for a full house. However, he will most specially be remembered as the most amazing husband to Caroline and father to his four children that they could ever ask for. His oldest daughter Lauren fondly remembers bar hopping in Nashville with her dad and mom to celebrate her 21st birthday. Olivia will always cherish summer nights in with her dad snuggling up and watching their favorite movies. Sammie could always count on her dad to watch every Notre Dame game with her, knowing he was the only person more obsessed with the team and school than she was. Jeff's youngest, Jack, loved getting to spend days working with his dad. Jack cherished getting to see his hero do what he does best while also teaching him life lessons he will remember forever.

Jeff is survived by his wife Caroline Berman (nee Ruby); his children Lauren, Olivia, Samantha and Jack W. Berman; his mother Carol Berman (nee Mateski); his father John Berman; his brother Jon Berman; his sister Jaye (John) Mennella: his brother-in-law William Ruby, Jr.; his sisters-in-law Marianne (Edward) Grossmayer, Barbara (Michael) Croak and Brigitte (Late Michael) Sullivan and his other brother-in-law Robert (Rania) Ruby; he was also a loving and caring uncle to many nieces and nephews.
