Obituary for Bob Meyers

Bob Meyers
Of Mount Prospect

Robert Anthony “Bob” Meyers, Sr. died on December 28, 2018 at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights, Illinois at the age of 89.

Bob is survived by the love of his life for 67 years Marlene L. Meyers (nee Thompson) of Mt. Prospect, Illinois; his devoted sons Bob (Kathy) Meyers Jr, Ken (Patty) Meyers and Jeff (Susie) Meyers; and grandchildren Jean (Eric) Hayes, Bob Meyers III, Scott (Thazin) Meyers, Katie (Spencer) Regalado, Shelagh Rodriguez, Sam Meyers and Josie Meyers; his great-grandchildren Addy Regalado, Daniel Hayes and Emma Hayes; his siblings Tony (Marylin) Meyers, Dorothy (late Gene) Hozie and the late Jim Meyers, Bill Meyers and John Meyers; he was also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bob was born on November 16, 1929 in Streator, Illinois to Tony J. and Margaret Meyers (nee Lesak), the 2nd eldest of 6 children. Shortly after graduating from Streator High School he moved to Chicago to work for Merit Oil where he met Marlene who was working on the transformer test line. As Bob liked to say, after an afternoon of swimming in Lake Michigan with Marlene at the Wilson/Montrose rocks, “the rest was history” as she stole his heart and became his soul mate. He and Marlene married on December 29, 1951 and never looked back. Bob’s accomplishments included serving in the Air Force from 1951 - 1955 where he worked on radars in North Africa and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon completion of his service in 1955, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Chicago Technical College (1962), and served as Vice President and General Manager of several companies including Radio Industries, TRW, Keene Coin Handling Division, Microdot, Diebel Manufacturing, American Hydraulics, Charles Industries, Universal Automatic and Overland Bolling. Bob was extremely proud of his many engineering and management accomplishments at every company and made countless friends along the way.

Bob loved golf, tennis, following the Chicago Bears, reading and teaching Youth Chess at Prospect Heights Library, but his love of building things trumped all and was evident in his accomplished woodworking, which resulted in many priceless pieces of furniture and toys for the family. He was a loving husband, parent and grandparent, with a witty and dry sense of humor, and served as an excellent role model for everyone in his family with his firm sense of right and wrong, and his belief that you should do more than what you were paid for or was expected.
