Obituary for Joseph William Ryback

Joseph “Joe” William Ryback
Of Island Lake

Joe Ryback, coach, teacher, father, husband was the kind of son every parent wishes their child to be. Playing baseball was his passion beginning with the Palatine Travellers, Palatine High School, and a scholarship athlete at Northern Iowa University, John A. Logan College, Quincy University and completing his degree in Education at Northeastern Illinois University. As a physical education teacher in Consolidated School District 118 taught middle school students and also met the needs of special education students with both physical and cognitive disabilities.

As a family man, Joe was an awesome father, who loved both of his boys very much.  He spent every free moment with Logan and Reid teaching and coaching them to play baseball, football, and soccer, or helping to build a Lego, Joe always found an opportunity to spend some quality time with his boys.

Coaching was Joe’s other passion, as the Head Sophomore Baseball coach at St. Viator High School, and a Varsity Assistant Football coach at Wauconda High School he shared his knowledge and helped players with their development and understanding of the game. His ability to relate to players and parents was his greatest strength. Everyone he touched was moved by his love of the game and his ability to motivate players not only to be successful on the field but also to be successful later in life.

If God was looking for a Coach he did not have to look very far because he now has the right man for the job.  Joe will never stop coaching, his players will live on, and therefore, Joe’s legacy will continue to live on.  We love you Joe, you will always be in our hearts and minds forever.

Joseph was born February 27, 1984, in Park Ridge to Joseph and Pauline (nee Tolcher) Ryback.  He died September 16, 2017, in Island Lake.   He is survived by his wife Christina (nee Zale) Ryback; his children Logan and Reid; his siblings Andrew (Stacy) Ryback and Casey Ryback; his brother and sister in laws, his uncles, aunts and by many nieces. Joseph is preceded in death by his grandparents Frederick (late Margaret) William Tolcher and Casey (Maryann) Ryback.
